Champion of Cornwall in 1911 in the middle of a golden age of wrestling from 1880 to 1920, when it was very popular at home and around the world with a standard of wrestling to match any era. It was testament to his athletic prowess for which he was famous for in several sports to become Champion of Cornwall amidst such a accomplished wrestlers proceeded by the renowned Ruben Chapman St Wenn Champion from 1903 to 1910 and succeeded by his brother Sidd Chapman, Champion in 1912 and 13 who was also champion of South Africa and middle weight champion of America. Records for this time are few but wrestlers had to earn their way into Championships by throwing at least four other competitors becoming a standing man or standard to contest the championships. I know that in 1913 Piper was still right in the top flight of wrestlers in the championship, only getting put out by former seven time champion Ruben Chapman and that in 1912 he won the Mawgan Cup a tournament that was always a hot-bed for top notch wrestlers which was no surprise when St Mawgan, St Wenn, St Columb Minor & Major have been the epicentre of Cornish Wrestling Champions for the last two hundred years.
